Holiday Survival Guide 7 Tips to Keep You From Turning Into a Grinch - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / Holiday Survival Guide 7 Tips to Keep You From Turning Into a Grinch - Introvert Whisperer Holiday Survival Guide: 7 Tips to Keep You From Turning Into a Grinch Yesterday I had an introvert tell me about a party some long-time friends were holding. She didnât want to go to it. In fact, she was dreading it and also dreading the prospects of saying âno.â I think she was holding out for a good case of the bubonic plague. Does this sound like you? Rather than avoiding the various social gatherings this month, try some of these ideas. Think of this as your very own holiday survival guide: 1. Focus On the Positive No matter if itâs a work holiday party or your neighborhood bash, there has to be at least one positive thing you can think of. Maybe itâs getting to know someone better, good food or the new outfit you wanted to buy. You control how you think about these things; pick out something you like and make that your focus. (Like this thought? Tweet it!) 2. Think About Only One Person, Not the Whole Group Introverts can easily get overwhelmed by the thought of hanging out with a whole group of people they donât know. Think about the one person you do want to spend time with. Maybe it is the work peer you used to love working with. It will give you a chance to reconnect with someone you like but may have lost contact with. 3. Donât Try to Work the Room This isnât who you are, so donât even go there. 4. Give Yourself a Break Our energy gets used up quickly being around other people, so you should plan on retreating to a quiet space. Simply spending some time in your own thoughts and taking a breather can help you be engaged and positive throughout the remainder of the event. 5. Create Your Strategy One thing we introverts are great at is thinking and making plans. Think in advance about the parts you dislike of going to a holiday event. Then, think about ways you could improve your behavior or outlook. We are all different in the things we dread. Some people would simply just prefer to watch TV or read a book. If thatâs the case, consider talking about your favorite TV programs or books. 6. Use the Event As an Experiment Take on the persona of Thomas Edison. He had 10,000 failed experiments, but he never thought of them as failures; he viewed them as opportunities to learn and improve. Figure out a couple of things youâd like to do differently and test them out. It wonât kill you, and it may just be the thing to turn around your view of these things. 7. Admit Youâre a Stranger I recently tried something that worked extremely well. I approached a group and asked, âCan a new person in town join in?â Everyone gave me a hearty welcome and asked me all sorts of ânew personâ questions. I felt very warm and fuzzy as a result. You may never be totally in love with going to parties. I know Iâm not. But I think you should aspire to enjoy yourself while youâre there. I think these suggestions can help you improve your outlook. Go to top Whatâs your go-to party survival tip? Share your thoughts in the comments! Learning Training
Learning Training Learning: we all think we know what it is. But how does it work? What is training? Can we learn training, or even better train learning? In this post, well get to know a few learning methods and some exercises, which help improve the capacity for learning. By the way, the advice in this post applies to learners of all levels and ages. At AJ Tutoring, we find great success introducing new learners to core academic subjects like reading, writing and math as part of our K-8 academic tutoring process. We also help students develop key test-taking skills for their first encounters with standardized tests like the ISEE, SSAT, and HSPT. We build on these very same skills as we work with students in challenging high school academic subjects like history and physics, all the way through exams taken for college admissions such as the SAT and ACT, and beyond to graduate school admissions tests like the GRE! Although the specifics of the course or the exam often necessitate individualized coachi ng and a customized approach, the principles of learning remain the same. A lifelong commitment to reading and thinking critically, developing quantitative skills and engaging with challenging quantitative topics like economics: these are the principles that will allow you to lead a rich life and stay sharp intellectually. With that mind, here are some pointers to improve core aspects of the learning process.Taking NotesTaking notes means listening. Not only passive hearing, but a true listeningfollow the materials in your thoughts. Taking notes also means choosing: discerning between important, less or even not important informationHere are 10 tips for effective note taking:Use a lot of paper, write only on one side; use different sheets for overview mind maps and other notes.Listen closely and think actively along. To differentiate between important and unimportant material, watch out for the speakerâs signals (e.g. remarks, summing up a section as transition, emphasis).Only start writing once a âunit of meaningâ is finished.Check continuously if you understand the connections and note and expand them separately in mind maps or structure diagrams.Write in an economical way: make only note of the essential.Use useful abbreviations, which are still understandable later.Donât abbreviate names or unknown technical terms. If certain quote or literature references are important, make note of them especially thoroughly.Make note of your keywords in a way, that shows the connections and relations between the different pieces of information. Use arrows, boxes or emphasis with a highlighter.Active ReadingThink about the material and make your own pictures. Use associations and mental pictures. Draw the pictures, use colors. Write summaries, try mind mapping. Be playful with the material and experiment with it. Explore, what about it is especially fun for you?Finding ExamplesKnowledge should be made alive and should be committed to memory in a multi-layered way.Wi th the help of examples you can make even âsoberâ material tangible, simplify it and take it the essence from it. It means to learn in a playful manner, handsâ"on, with your whole body and all your senses.Examples:Create little cards and make a memory game.Go for a walk, so that all your senses are involved. You learn better in combination with a movement and the material can be recalled with that movement.DrawingYes, drawing! Train the right hemisphere of your brain! It is well known that drawing and doodling activates our brain. Find opportunities to draw something, for instance while on a phone call. Testing New KnowledgeLearning always happens in an active way: Try to use your new knowledge everywhere. Everything in your surrounding works according to this principle. Applying your knowledge in a new situation is a rewarding feeling and can motivate you to learn even more!

Heart Math Tutoring The Formula for Classroom Success - Heart Math Tutoring
Heart Math Tutoring The Formula for Classroom Success - Heart Math Tutoring Heart Math Tutoring: The Formula for Classroom Success Heart Math Tutoring: The Formula for Classroom Success July 21, 2016 NC State Philanthropy Journal News Charlena Wynn By Emily Elliott A sixth-grade girl experiencing homelessness in Charlotte in 2009 remarked over dinner, âI swear, sometimes my school feels invisible.â Investigating further, I saw that less than half of the students were performing on grade level at the time in this childâs school. At the time, I was an investment banking analyst and soon became a volunteer tutor in this childâs school. Immediately I saw the tremendous impact on studentsâ skills and confidence when they are given one-on-one attention. Irritated upon learning that many students across the nation are progressing to subsequent grades without the necessary skills, and recognizing how different this practice was from my own upbringing and opportunities, I transitioned from finance into teaching Continue reading here: http://pj.news.chass.ncsu.edu/2016/07/05/heart-math-tutoring-the-formula-for-classroom-success/.

How to Deal with Difficult Customers
How to Deal with Difficult Customers via Pixabay Types of Difficult Customers Difficult customers can come in many shapes and sizes. They donât always have to be the angry person screaming at an employee. Sometimes it is the customer who loves to talk employeesâ ears off and keep them from doing their work. It can also be a customer who is indecisive, which can take up an employeeâs time when they have other customers to help. Then, of course, you have the impatient, demanding, and angry difficult customers. Itâs important to identify which type of difficult customer you have to deal with to decide how to react to them and handle their situation. Know Your Customer If you have been working in your industry for a little while, you probably have an idea of what kind of customer you are dealing with. First, identify which type of difficult customer you have. If they are impatient, apologize for the wait. Maybe they are demanding or angry and you have to approach the situation differently. Second, you must identify what they want. This will help you to figure out a solution to their problem. If you know what they want to get out of their experience, it will put you one step closer to ending with a satisfied customer. via Pixabay Stay Calm The worst thing you can do when dealing with difficult customers is losing your cool. Itâs important to stay calm and keep control of the situation. Imagine what would happen if an employee started yelling at difficult customers or broke down in tears. Nobody would be happy and a solution would never be reached. To stay calm, take deep breaths and speak slowly in a controlled voice. Donât raise your voice, but talk in a low tone. Speaking in a lower tone than your customer will help to keep them from yelling and making a scene. Listen Attentively To know how to help difficult customers, you must know what they are upset about. Listen carefully and attentively to what they are saying. Show them that you are actively listening by maintaining eye contact and nodding in understanding. Take notes of what they are saying if necessary. Never interrupt the customer. Wait until they are finished to respond. Show Empathy Make difficult customers feel like you understand what they are upset about by showing empathy. This can be shown through your words and body language. You donât want to show your customer that you are defensive by standing with your arms folded. Instead, keep your body open and face difficult customers face on. Apologize Sometimes all difficult customers want to hear is âIâm sorry.â It may sound silly to throw a tantrum just to receive an apology from an employee, but people have done crazier things for much less. If an impatient customer has been waiting in line for too long, a simple âIâm sorry about the wait. Letâs get you out of here quickly,â can change their whole attitude. An apology doesnât always make everything better depending on the customer and the situation, but it is always good to say. via Pixabay Offer a Solution If difficult customers are complaining about something, itâs your job to offer them a solution or point them in the right direction of one. If you have the authority to put their coupon through or make a return, then do it. If they request something that it out of your control, itâs best to call someone over who does have authority over you such as a manager or supervisor. Always try to offer a solution to difficult customers. Donât Take it Personally Itâs easy to get emotional when difficult customers are yelling at you, especially when you didnât do anything to make them angry. Remember not to take it personally. They are not yelling at you. You just so happen to be there. It isnât about you, itâs about the customer. Handle Difficult Customers With Ease When you implement these strategies when dealing with difficult customers you will be surprised at how easy it can be. When you identify the type of customer you are dealing with, you will know how to handle them and offer a solution quicker. Always apologize and show empathy through your words and body language. Lastly, remember to never take it personally.
Tips for Those Working in Retail on Black Friday
Tips for Those Working in Retail on Black Friday pexels.com Wear Comfortable Shoes The biggest tip for working retail on Black Friday is to wear comfortable shoes. You are going to be on your feet, rushing around and more all day. The customers are sure to keep you on your toes. You will be re-organizing displays, ringing up items at cash registers, unpacking boxes, finding items in the back room. The goal is to make as much business as possible and the crowds are going to keep you busy and working all day long. If you are only an hour into your shift and your feet are already hurting, how are you going to make it the rest of the day? Not only will it impede your ability to do your job but being uncomfortable will put you in a bad mood, making it more difficult to work with your co-workers and employees alike. You want to get through Black Friday as unscathed as possible so wearing comfortable shoes is important. More than comfortable shoes, you can also use shoe inserts, tape certain toes together, and carry band-aids. The taping method is usually reserved for when wearing heels, but why not when working retail? WhoWhatWear.com lays out the method to tape your toes: âTape your third and fourth toes (counting from the big toe) together we recommend nude medical tape for a low-profile look, but Scotch tape works in a pinch to alleviate pain in the ball of your foot.â pexels.com Have Headache Relief Tactics Headaches can be brought on by many different things, including but not limited to stress, loud noises, and difficult customers. You will have an abundance of those if you work retail on Black Friday. However, having a headache on Black Friday will make the experience even more of an ordeal than it has to be. The best thing to do is to ward off your headaches and have some headache relief tactics that work for you at the ready. You can always take Motrin, Advil, Tylenol, ibuprofen, Aleve. Whatever painkiller works for you is a choice. But in case you do not like taking medicines and want to try a few different tactics to relieve your headache, try these out: â¢Drink coffee! ·WebMD. com says this about the headache-relieving powers of coffee: âWhen your head hurts, you want relief fast. Whether its a run-of-the-mill tension headache or a migraine, caffeine can help. Thats why its an ingredient in a lot of popular pain relievers. Caffeine helps reduce inflammation, and that can bring relief.â â¢Drink water! ·According to FreeDrinkingWater.com, âWater can aid as a treatment to all of these headaches. In tension headaches, it was noted above that a cause can be fatigue. Fatigue is a side effect of dehydration. So, if dehydration is the cause of the fatigue and fatigue is the cause of the headache, start by treating the fatigue and get hydrated.â â¢Take deep breaths ·Oftentimes, as people go throughout their day, they do not take as many deep breaths as they should. It is easy to fall into the trap of not paying attention to your breathing and beginning to breathe too shallowly. When that happens, you do not get enough oxygen, and it can bring on a headache. Just take a minute or two to breathe, and breathe deeply at that. WebMD.com suggests this method of breathing: âContinue breathing, but each time you inhale, imagine that you are breathing in more relaxation. Each time you exhale imagine that you are getting rid of a little more tension. Progressive muscle relaxation: Switch your thoughts to yourself and your breathing. Take a few deep breaths, exhaling slowly.â

The Reasons Why You Need a Community Tutor
The Reasons Why You Need a Community TutorAlthough it might seem a little daunting at first, finding a good community tutor in your local area is actually pretty easy. For a simple learner who has no special needs, the situation is rather simple. If you're concerned about your safety, however, the situation becomes more complicated. You have to ask yourself: Do I really need a tutor? After all, the pay isn't going to get you anywhere. The thing is, many tutors are paid more for their work than they make in an entire year's salary. Some are even making six figure salaries. So, if they make more money and provide better services, why would anyone want a tutor? The main thing is that they can provide personalized attention. If you have ever gone to a night school or one-on-one tutoring, you know that this type of one-on-one attention is going to be much better than any of the others.Simply put, if your life revolves around your studies, and you're probably one of the least anxious people I know, this type of attention might be exactly what you need. After all, there are some important differences between learning in a classroom environment and learning on your own.In a class environment, you could be surrounded by tens of other students, all having the same interests, the same goals, and you could spend a lot of time in a room listening to them talk. In a tutor's classroom, you'll find that only you and the person sitting next to you are spending a lot of time together.Getting a one-on-one tutor is actually one of the smartest moves you can make when you're learning. With this type of help, you can focus your studies, learn fast, and have a fun time too.

Chemistry 2 Tutor - Whats the Difference Between Chemistry 2 Tutor and the Real Course?
Chemistry 2 Tutor - What's the Difference Between Chemistry 2 Tutor and the Real Course?I don't know about you, but when it comes to giving an objective opinion on something that I've taken an interest in, my first reaction would be, 'So, what's the difference between Chemistry 2 Tutor and the Real Course? 'The reason I want to answer this question is because I took a Chemistry course from a local school in Ohio, and I was really frustrated with it.While I remember getting the information out of the textbook and some of the lessons were pretty interesting, the problem was that I couldn't think clearly and knew little about the subject. I was also being tutored by someone else.I found out later that the school had started the program after they were underperforming for a few years. The teacher had been off sick for several months and the main person who came in to teach for the next couple of years, had already taken the chemistry 2 course. After one year, they decided to change thing s up, give their students a little extra help, and they hired the new teacher for the entire class, which was very unusual.Even though I don't think that this was really necessary, it's better to have someone else teaching your Chemistry 2 course than to teach yourself. If you're struggling with the material, and you know that you have problems with reading and remembering, then it may be helpful to have someone come to your help. And when it comes to what it is that you'll learn, you'll get far more out of the real Chemistry than you will from the synthetic Chemical Alchemy teacher! On another note, if you're taking a science class with a Chemistry tutor, then it's always going to be easier for you to understand and remember. And it's easy to see why this is.Because Chemistry isn't so much about numbers, it's more about knowing how different molecules are put together and how they relate to one another. You can't really get this information through reading or listening, and with a C hemistry tutor, you have somebody to guide you along the way, guiding you and teaching you. There are some chemists that feel that chemistry is too hard, and this is probably true if you're taking the class for the first time. But if you're not already prepared, and you've taken the class before, then it's best to go with the tutor that has experience and familiarity with the material.
